National Vision for Sierra Leone

The National Vision for Sierra Leone, originating from the Sierra Leone Truth and Reconciliation Commission (SL TRC), is a national initiative promoting peace, reconciliation, unity, and equality. The National Vision contributed to the intellectual, imaginative, and cultural revitalization of Sierra Leone in the aftermath of the Sierra Leonean civil war through a multi-faceted approach that included conducting sensitization programs that utilized cultural, artistic, and scholarly activities aimed at helping Sierra Leoneans develop fresh and confident “visions“ for the future of their country.

The evolving collection of visions, which form the National Vision Exhibit, is a living memorial to victims and survivors of the civil war, a first step, a small yet significant peace dividend for all Sierra Leoneans, contributed by the people of Sierra Leone. The submissions stand as testimony to what is possible in Sierra Leone. Depicting struggle, forgiveness and hope, the National Vision Exhibit is a lasting contribution to Sierra Leone’s national heritage that points to the need to preserve the aspirations of the Sierra Leonean people for future generations. The visions inspire and challenge all of us to rise above the past and build a better future. Their messages must be taken seriously.
